Pulse Racing Yearling Selection Process

At Pulse Racing Thoroughbreds, we understand that success in the racing industry requires more than just luck. It requires a thorough and disciplined approach to yearling selection, one that maximizes value and ensures that our purchases are of the highest quality. Our bloodstock team is aided by astutue Bloodstock Agent Dave Mee (Pinhook Bloodstock International) who poses an impressive strike rate of selecting multiple group winners for an affordable price tag. The selection process begins months before the sales, with a significant proportion of inspections occurring on stud farms. This allows us to get a firsthand look at the horses, their pedigrees, and their potential.

At the sale, our inspections continue until we have narrowed down a boutique shortlist from the thousands of horses on offer. This is a rigorous process that involves close examination of each horse's conformation, movement, and temperament. We also carefully review their pedigrees and consider the success of their siblings and other close relatives. Finally, we assess their potential for success on the track based on a range of factors, including their physical attributes, breeding, and success of their stud farm.

It is important to note that our approach is not solely focused on identifying the most expensive horses. Rather, we strive to identify horses that represent the best value for our clients, with a focus on long-term success. To this end, we carefully consider each horse's individual characteristics and set a budget for what we believe the horse is worth.

Vetting is another key component of our selection process. Before any horse enters the sale ring, it is thoroughly examined by our team of expert veterinarians. This includes a range of tests and assessments, such as X-rays, respiratory scoping, and physical examinations. Our veterinarians are highly experienced in identifying any potential issues or health concerns, and their input is critical in ensuring that we make wise purchases.

Once a horse has passed the Vet and our bloodstock agent is impressed by the horse’s confirmation and pedigree, we set a budget to which we think the horse is worth. If the horse exceeds this budget, we will not buy it. We have representation at nearly every sale in Australia and New Zealand, that way we can be very critical on the type of horse we buy for our owners. If a horse does not meet our strict criteria, we are patient and will wait until another horse does at that sale or the next. This strict system, ensures that value is maximised with every purchase we make.

Overall, our thorough approach to yearling selection ensures that we are able to identify and acquire the highest quality horses for our clients. We are committed to maximizing value and setting our clients up for long-term success in the highly competitive world of horse racing. With Pulse Racing Thoroughbreds, you can be confident that your investment is in good hands.
